Algeria Overview

Algeria or the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria (officially) is a country in North Africa's Maghreb region. Most importantly, this is the largest African country by area.

A geographical overview of Algeria

Algeria is bordered by Tunisia, Niger, Libya, Mauritania, Mali, Western Sahara, Morocco, and the Mediterranean Sea. Since the breakup of Sudan, Algeria has become the largest country in the Mediterranean Basin and Africa. The southeastern part of the country contains a significant area of Sahara. Both Atlas intended to merge in eastern Algeria.

  • Aures and Nememcha, the vast mountain ranges are occupying overall northeastern Algeria.
  • Mostly Algeria lies between 19ยฐ and 37ยฐN as well as longitudes between 9ยฐW and 12ยฐE. It contains a few natural harbors only while most of its coastal area consists of the hilly and mountainous landscape.

Hydrology and climate of Algeria

The midday dessert temperature in the region is hot all around the year. However, after sunset, the rapid loss of heat is done due to dry and clear air. At the same time, the nights here are cool and sometimes chilly. Along its coastal line, rainfall is pretty plentiful and ranges between 400 and 670 mm. Climate change has wide-reaching effects in Algeria, as water access and strong heat are already some of the biggest challenges here in the Sahara part of the country.
