Historical Overview of North Macedonia
The history of this region was started with the kingdom of Paeonia. The Persian Achaemenid Empire subjugated the area in the late sixth century BC. However, it was also ruled by Bulgaria during World War I. However, it was returned under Serbian rule after the end of the first World War. Again, during the second world war, this area was ruled by Bulgaria. In 1945, the country was established as a communist Yugoslavia constituent state that remained until the peaceful independence in 1991. However, in 1993, the country became a part of the United Nations.
