  • La Désirade
  • Marie-Galante
  • Two inhabited ÃŽles des Saintes Besides this, Guadeloupe also consists of various uninhabited outcroppings and islands.

Etymology of Guadeloupe

Basse-Terre is the capital of this region. Les Abymes is the most populous city of Guadeloupe, while Pointe-à-Pitre is the center of business here. Just like any other overseas department, Guadeloupe is an important part of France. Euro is the official currency of Guadeloupe as it is a constituent territory of the Eurozone and European Union. Most importantly, any of the European Union city can work and settle here indefinitely.

Geography of Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe is an archipelago that consists of above 12 islands, rocks, and islets, as well. However, the region is situated where the western Atlantic Ocean and the northeastern Caribbean Sea meet. Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre are the two major islands here that form the shape of a butterfly, especially when viewed from above.

Climate of Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe is a part of the Leeward Islands because these are prevailing trade winds downwind which usually blow out of the northeast. In the sailing ship's days, this was significant. Besides this, the island is also known to be vulnerable to hurricanes and storms that make landfall on the islands. Overall, it contains heavy rainfall, a warm climate, and fertile volcanic soils. Due to all this, the vegetation on this island is also lush.
