This dataset provides the ISO Language Codes as per ISO 639 standards.
ISO 639 codes are being used widely in multiple disciplines. From library community to bibliographic purposes and from representing different versions of languages to as well as for computerized systems. It is because the basic purpose of ISO 639 language codes is to establish the codes which can be recognized internationally for better representation of language families or different languages. Even more, using a code instead of name of a language will also bring various benefits. As some languages are being referred to different language groups in different ways. And in this way, even two unrelated languages will also become able to share the similar or same name.

Language codes are open list which can be extended or refined as per needs. However, Registration Authorities are the bodies which will perform the job to maintain the standards in the best possible way.
ISO is allowing free use of its currency, language and country codes from ISO 639, ISO 4217 and ISO 3166. While, ISO country users can also subscribe for paid services to get updates and supply of data in.xml .csv, and .xls formats. These are ready to use for various applications.
